I notice in The News that Pompey greats are been inducted into a Hall of Fame.Got me thinking of which players over the years from Fareham Town would be inducted if we had one.
From our Southern League days Paul Grant and Nigel Long immediately spring to mind while our wessex League days would surely have Lee Webber,Darren Watts and Bjay Green.
Prior to that-Hampshire League-I wasn't living in the area so some supporters may have names from that era.
Any thoughts on this? |

Apologises for spelling players names wrongly.
Hampshire League
Henry Davis I believe was known as the “Duke”
Mick Richards old fashioned bustling centre forward and Mickey Swain who was wonderful tricky winger & crosser of ball and a good cricketer for Gosport to.
Tony Callahan best box to box mid fielder we ever had who easily made transition from Hampshire League to Southern League, and yes he was a great Gosport player to.
Southern League
Paul Moody best young Striker we ever had in our Southern League days.
Andy Bye best centre half we ever had.
David Leaworthy best forward we ever had, closely followed by Richie Paskins.
Wessex League
Lee Webber
Over you to you Tony W
P.S.
It would be nice to invite them to a big inaugural night when the club house could be formally opened. |

Green Curtains is having "senior moments", I think Mick Richards was a goalkeeper, who later became secretary at Waterlooville FC.
Do you mean Mick O'Neil?
Barry Cook also springs to mind,, |

Thank you Old Git
I did apologise for misspelling the player’s names but O’Neil to Richards is a bit far fetched.
O’Neil is correct and of course his partner was the brother of Bobby Stokes the Saints Cup final scorer. Can’t recall his first name either?
Now who am I |

all the bath lane memories rekindled, names like paul grant (goalkeeper),simon o,neil and mick o,neil, bobby taubman, tony callahan, dave ings, barry cook, peter farley, etc.the sunday side were called fareham centipedes and consisted of many first teamers as well.bath lane was the best playing surface in non league football for miles around due to natural drainage into the creek.once the green curtain was put up around the pitch and a thin rope keeping fans off the playing surface it was normal for crowds of 750 plus.the players used the existing cricket pavillion as changing rooms.as smashy and nicey would say "great days mate"
.reckon we are in for some great days ahead as well.

Whilst my own records of the Hampshire league days are still slowly but surely being completed
from what I have so far, a couple of suprising ommissions.
The Wilson Brothers and albeit more for his administrative work than his goalkeeping skills Ken Atkins.
Southern League Days
John Bailey
Anniello Iannone - only here a short time, clearly very unfit but he knew where the goal was.
Micky Greeno - every game he went from the sublime to the ridiculous

Splodge mentions Annie Iannone and that loveable, cheeky chappie Micky Greeno.Funnily enough Jim Mackay and I were talking about them yesterday.
Then at half-time on todays televised Weymouth v Barrow game Annie appeared being interviewed briefly before attempting to lob a number of balls into a container. The interviewer stated he was a Terras Legend making over 700 appearances and 182 goals.
Did he not score twice against Gosport to consign them to relegation? |

That's why he should be in the hall of fame. Only with us for a very short spell, scored the goals that kept us up and those that relegated Gosport. |

A bit research carried out
Bud Fisher - manager of Fareham first time we won the Hampshire League in 1959-60.
Doug Little - 41 goals in a season 57-58 from what i've established so far, a club record.
Dave Topliss - no not the physio, forward from the 50's and 60's
Jimmy Passell first played for the club in 1952 and still playing regularly in 1960 (no idea how many apperances as too many team lists still missing)
Jimmy Stares - Not quite as long as Jimmy Passell but 55 to 60 where I am in the early stages of my research. |

what about Steve Riley, Paul Thomas, Guy Rutherford. I remember Steve playing in the afternoon for the navy getting picked up & driven to Canterbury for an evening kick off & still going strong in the 90th minute.

I come into contact with Nigel Long regularly through work. He still lives and works in Southampton and says that he had the best time of his life playing at Farehem and that it would be great to see them back up in the Southern League where they belong . |
