great performance from the lads today.the first half was the best i,ve seen this season.the passing was crisp with plenty of movement off the ball.gary austin must have had five wheetabix for breakfast,he did not stop running all day,he epitomised the work ethic in the side at present, since the new milton debacle we have turned it right round.feet must stay on the ground but i would like to thank the team and everybody else for a great afternoon which put a big smile on my dads face who was celebrating his birthday today.cheers matt and co. |

I think the last 20 minutes of the first half were the best I have seen this current side play. They gained the upper hand in this period through high tempo and determination to challenge for the ball all over the park. A lot more passing on the ground was also noticeable. Has the pitch improved or are the players now more in tune with each other.
The team won this game and all players in the squad achieve this together. However and it is only my personal view, Gary Austin today showed why he is worth a front starting position in this side. The next step is for Gary and Graham to make a pact to create goal scoring opportunities for each other. You can do it guys you know you can. This is not taking anything away from Tor and Marc Collis who have both shown enough this season to show they can play at this level.
Decision time is looming for the club. In normal times a club pressing for promotion toward the end of the calendar year would look to add a couple more experienced faces to enhance the side’s realistic chance of say second place. Unfortunately this would probably take more funds which in these hard times the club don’t have. So it is down to the supporters to keep up and even increase the vocals for this side as the season unfolds. I remind everyone that the players are here for Fareham Town not the money or they would play elsewhere. |

| Regards from a rather wet Wiltshire. Well said Green curtains. The future is bright. Sounds like a good performance yesterday. Need to push on and get maximum points from Hayling and Cowes. If we want to be taken as serious challengers, we need to do this. Hopefully we will be in a strong position going into the vase tie at Whitehawk. With the Reserves and U13 winning also, things are all good. |

Some interesting points Green Curtains makes there and I'll now throw in my tuppence worth.
Their is clearly a great team spirit within the group. The fun and games pre-match whilst they were getting together for team photos which will be on the main website shortly as testament to that.
I wont go into details here but Mark Cotton & an inflatable beach ball just don't mix!
As for the pitch, Matt Parr is on record as saying that once the pitches get a bit softer which thanks to the recent much needed rain they are, then it will suit our style of play better which I think showed yesterday.
With regards passing I think its a mixture of a slightly softer pitch and being more in tune with each other.
With regards signing more players, Personally I'm not sure we really need any new players. That's not to say if someone becomes available that we are not going to go for them, but thinking about it Dave Birmingham and Matt Jones have previously won this league. Gav Jones Danny Thompson and Graham Lindsey have Southern Lge experience.
On our day we can beat anyone and with a bit of luck with injuries and good discipline not leading to unneccesary suspensions, then the title isn't beyond us this season. At the moment we are 14points behind current leaders Poole with 2 games in hand, win those and its down to 8, beat Poole home and away and its down to 2 and then its a case of who blinks first
We've also got some great youngsters coming through also and despite what you may have heard or seen elsewhere, our playing budget is one of the smallest in the league and as Mr Curtains rightly said. the players are playing for the club not the money.
As for performances yesterday, Gary was outstanding. Ex Town keeper Joe McCormack remarked halfway through the first half "Will he ever stop chasing everything?" In fact I can't think of any town player who deserved less than a 8 out of 10 yesterday.
Let's keep it going Tuesday night at Hayling. |

I know i've been accused as negative in the past, so just wanted to say i thought for a period yesterday we played better than we have for several seasons. Austin and Lindsay is the best up front combination...Gary is wasted on the right and i was very pleased to see him in a more central role. I appreciate improving the squad with limited resources is not easy but if I could have one wish granted!! it would be for a really creative midfielder.
Anyway great result and performance, certainly makes a saturday brighter. |

I echo all of the above. Was the first game I have managed to make this season, and normally, in previous years, I hear from this site how well they are playing, how gelled the team is etc and then I come down for a game and its like 11 inept strangers have been thrown together, from the performance that is served up. Happily this time it was not to be and I thought we looked solid at the back, creative in midfield, fantastic work ethic up front and the whole side seemed prepared to want to work and play for each other. I guess the only criticism was that we could have done with another couple of goals but I dont want to detract from the overall picture. A freak shot from a Brading player could have brought it back to 2-1 and we could have been hanging on. Their keeper amused me the way he alternated between bantering with the crowd and then turning to yell abuse and encouragement at his beleagured team mates. Keep it up lads.
PS Will Gary be credited with the second goal? Deflection probably caused it to beat the keeper, but thought he deserved a goal today. |

I would echo previous comments a good team performance, we had a lot of possession and maybe should have created more goal scoring opportunities. Gary Austin put in a good performance and looks more comfortable playing up front rather than on the wing.
The problem I see here is becoming a victim of our own success due to the excellent strength in depth of the squad many of the players on the bench and in reserves are as good as some of the players on the pitch. Under normal circumstances I know Matt would play them 90min in midweek reserve games to keep match fitness and confidence high but due to the lack of fixtures this is not possible. I would think some of these players may well leave (paricularly if we go out of the vase..hopefully not) as they could walk into the majority of wessex premier sides.
Whilst the players do want to play for Fareham particularly as many are local, it should be remembered that it is their hobby and they want to play football.
